2021 Hiking the Southwest Path in Cornwall England
In September 2021, me and some friends traveled to the southwest corner of England to hike the SW Coast Path in Cornwall England. The 630 mile path borders the Atlantic Ocean and English Channel with amazing views of the water and green countryside. We hiked a 53 mile portion of the path from St. Ives to Penzance. It is hard for me to imagine a more beautiful hike.
The group rendezvoused in London prior to taking the train to St Ives the next morning. We will arrived in Cornwall in the afternoon where we would begin our four day hike to Penzance.
Frank Papa was a well loved member of the hiking group and passed away suddenly in December 2020. Frank’s wife, Maria, bought us matching shirts for our hike. He will always be remembered.
All along the hiking path there are great places to eat with a lot of atmosphere and a pub is never far away.
Bath England
Bath was discovered by the Romans in 60 AD and the bathing complex was built over the next 100 years. The Bath Abbey was built in the 7th century and later expanded to the beautiful church it is today.
TIP: I do not know if it is because of the Covid epidemic but I used very little cash, even though I had brought with me many British Pounds from the states. I used Apple Pay and credit cards (Visa & MC) everywhere I traveled. Buses, trains and the Tube accepted Apple Pay. What a great convenience.
York England
2021 London England
The British Library has an amazing museum inside containing many rare books and many historical documents.
Hampton Court is beautiful and well worth visiting. It is a 40 minute train ride from the Waterloo station in London. From the train station in Hampton court, it is a short walk to the palace.
Hampton Court was built by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. Construction began in 1514 and continued for many years. When Cardinal Wolsey fell from favor in 1529, the Cardinal gave the palace to King Henry VIII. The palace became a favorite hang out for the King and it was enlarged to accommodate the King’s courtiers.
Saint Paul’s Cathedral is beautiful and a must see for anyone visiting London. Saint Paul’s Cathedral was designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the late 17th century and completed in 1697. If you enjoy British history, exploring the crypt in St Paul’s Cathedral will amaze you. Because buried in the crypt, are many historical figures you have read about in history.
