Arrive In Prague

I departed from Saint Petersburg Florida on Friday afternoon (September 26) and arrived in Prague at 9:45 on Saturday morning. My journey took me longer than I would have liked because I had to change planes at Washington Dulles and then again at my favorite airport in the world, Frankfurt (I hope you detected my sarcasm). Yes, I had to clear customs in Frankfurt before catching a short flight to Vaclav Havel airport in Prague. Even though I had a one hour and twenty minute layover in Frankfurt, I came within five minutes of missing my flight to Prague.

My flight from Washington Dulles to Frankfurt took me over the southern part of the U.S. territory of Greenland. I was fortunate to be sitting on the left side of the plane because I could get a great view of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). I have never seen them before.

The old town square in Prague is ahuge tourist draw and later in the afternoon tourists from all over the world packed this square and the local cafes, restaurants and tourist shops.

Wencelas Square is a major wide boulevard just outside the old section of Prague. While this street is considered the newer section of Prague there was a lot of history on this street. There is lots of film footage of Hitler, in his motorcade riding down this street in triumph after invading Czechoslovakia and Vaclav Havel declared independence on a balcony on this street. This street is now a major shopping, dining and party destination.

Tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 I meet the other people on the tour group and my tour through central Europe officially begins.
