On the morning of October 6 we leave Monemvasia and will spend two nights in Nafplio. On the way we will travel through the heartland of the Peloponnese and visit the ancient mountain fortress of Mystras.

When Mystras was conquered by the Ottomans in the late 15th century, they carved the eyes out of the saints with their swords.

After visiting Mystras in the morning, we stopped in Sparta for lunch. Nothing remains of ancient Sparta. The Spartans were not builders, they were warriors. Their cities did not have walls because they believed they did not need them. The Athenians were the builders.

The wines were very reasonably priced, but shipping to the US was expensive
