Last Day in Bern

On my last full day in Bern I located a wonderful bookstore, highly recommended in Rick Steves guidebook with a roof top garden coffee shop. It was a wonderful spot to enjoy a cappuccino. The bookstore had an entire floor dedicated to english books and a very friendly staff. I must have spent 90 minutes exploring the store. I love bookstores even if I cannot read the language.

The Bern cathedral was built in the 14th century. It was a Catholic church until the middle of the 16th century and then the church was converted to a Protestant church. All the Catholic statues and symbols were removed and buried outside the city. Then in the 1960s somebody decided to dig up all the buried artifacts and had them placed in a museum in Bern.

In the evening I enjoyed a Peach Spritzer and light dinner at an outdoor cafe on a terrace with the Aares river as a backdrop.
