Touring Lausanne, Switzerland

Yesterday, May 20, I arrived in Lausanne with a plan to tour the official Olympic museum and Chillon Castle on the east side of Lake Geneva. Chillon Castle is a medieval castle built in the mid 14th century and is in remarkably good shape.

From 1896 to 1920, winners of major events did not win medals but won very nice trophies.

This flame has been continually lit since 1993 when the Olympic Museum was opened. The flame was carried from Greece and the cauldron was lit by Katarina Witt (Germany).

Walking from the train station to Chillon Castle, I came across this old gun emplacement which originates from the 1940s. Half of Lake Geneva is in France and the other half is in Switzerland.

Walking on the wall of Chillon Castle I came I saw a ferry crossing Lake Geneva. I thought this was the quintessential picture of life on the lake.

Was the hotel a Rick Steve’s recommendation? Lake Geneva is do picturesque. Chillon Castle Looks interesting. Lausanne Cathedral has a great view. Were these part of your plan?

My hotel in Lausanne was the only hotel I stayed at which was not a Rick Steves hotel. It was a Moxy hotel which is owned by Marriott. I would not stay there again. I chose this hotel because it was near the train station but it was inconvenient to everything else. Plus, there is no free coffee in the morning. They charge you four francs for a 12 oz cup. Outrageous!
