Finally, arriving in Stockholm

Lufthansa Service Center in Frankfurt
Stockholm Central Train Station

The flight from Tampa left five hours late due to severe weather in Tampa. There was a mad dash to the service center since almost everyone on the plane missed their connecting flight. Lufthansa put me on a waiting list for the next flight. But since every flight to Stockholm was overbooked, I missed the next two flights. I actually got the last seat, on the last plane, leaving for Stockholm that day.

Getting from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Stockholm Central is very easy. There is an express train that costs about $20 USD and gets you to downtown Stockholm in 18 minutes. And of course, when you arrive at 12:30 AM, there are not many people on the train.

Vasa

Very few places in Stockholm take cash. Most take Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Very few places take American Express.

My first tourist stop in Stockholm was the Vasa museum. The Vasa was launched on August 10, 1628 and was the pride of the Swedish navy. This beautiful, 64 gun warship, was considered the most powerful ship in the world until it sank a few minutes after it was launched. The ship was top heavy and it capsized when its sails caught the first breeze. The ship was recovered in 1960 and placed in a museum. The museum is great. You will learn a lot about the history of naval warfare, shipbuilding and life on a navy ship in 1628. My kinda place.

I found a small beer garden near the museum.

The Vasa museum takes about two to three hours to enjoy. From there I went to the Viking museum, and the Nordic Museum.

Nordic Museum
Abba Museum

Note the difference in crowd size between the people waiting in line to see the Abba Museum and inside Nordic Museum. I have no plans to see the Abba museum. The Nordic Museum was OK, not great.

When I was at the Viking Museum I received a text from Chase that someone had spent $4600 on a Jetblue vacation package and $340 on travel insurance. So I had to get back to the hotel and cancel my credit card. Working with Chase was great, they immediately removed the charges and they are sending me a new card, … to Florida. Ow well. I still have Apple Pay and two more cards.

Ha ha! You are right, the beer does look really small in the photo. Maybe it was a 2 oz beer πŸ™‚
