First Day Bergen

Last night I arrived in Bergen without any transportation issues. I am still in disbelief. The train travelled from Oslo to Myrdal, where I waited 45 minutes for a train to Flam. Myrdal was a cute little station that provided access to some great hiking and biking areas and of course provided train access to Flam where I caught the ferry to Bergen.

Once in Flam, I caught the ferry to Bergen via the Sognefjord. The Sognefjord is the largest fjord in Norway and it is amazingly beautiful. I only wish it was not cold and raining for most of the ferry trip to Bergen. I sat on the back of the boat for most of the six hour ride to Bergen. As you can see this high speed dual hull ferry can move very fast.

The sun did come out just prior to arriving at Bergen. If you notice how much sunlight there is at 8:45 in the evening. You would think with this much sunlight, it would be warmer.

Woke up in Bergen on a cold rainy day. I took a guided tour of three small museums and a talk about the history of Bergen. This was a Kerry morning. The sun came out around noon and I had a chance to walk around the city on a cold sunny day in August. The temperature got up to 55 degrees F. I stopped by the fish market for lunch where heaters were required for comfort.

Hello MF, good to hear your 1st day in Bergen was nice and you had a “Kerry Morning “. A bit envious of the 55 degree weather though your ferry ride through the Sognefjord must have been quite chilly.
