Day 3, Last Day in Lisbon

Today I decided to throw out my original plans for the day, which was to spend most the day in Sintra but instead spend the day exploring Lisbon. I spent my first two days visiting museums, art galleries, old historic forts and churches and I decided to spend a casual day exploring the city. This was a fun day.

The Elevador de Santa Justa is a 150 foot tall iron tower built in 1902. The tower connects the lower city to the upper city via an elevator that costs 6 euros, or you can climb the steps, like I did, for free. There are great views of the city from the top.

Lisbon is a city built across many hills. Getting around Lisbon can be challenging unless you take advantage of the trolly cars, subway system or funicular (right).

Wandering the streets of Lisbon on a beautiful day was very enjoyable. I came across this view of Sao Jorge Castle from a park on another hill. Throughout Lisbon, there are many parks with a place to grab a light lunch and a pint.

Lisbon is home to the oldest bookstore in the world, there is a Guiness World Record certificate on the wall that proves it. It is a very nice and large bookstore that has books in many languages, and a coffee shop.

Portuguese College Musicians

While wandering the streets of Lisbon I came across this Portuguese Tuna Group, which is a group of college musicians and singers that are members of a “co-ed fraternity”.

This group was from the school of medicine and is raising money to help with school costs. They were great fun to watch and listen to the music. Most of these college students will be doctors one day.
