April 10 (Wednesday) I took a tram from the town center of the Hague to Delft, about 8 miles. Delft is a picturesque town with canals and a beautiful town square. The church dates from the 11th century.
The Royal Delft porcelain factory has been around since 1653. I toured the factory, watched a few demonstrations and heard an explanation on the manufacturing process from start to finish. Of course the tour ended in the shop.
In the late 1940s Pablo Picasso was fascinated with the process of making porcelain pottery and the potential for art in porcelain. He teamed with Royal Delft where they would manufacture his art. Royal Delft has a Picasso museum in their factory.
After a nice lunch in Delft I took a long tram ride from Delft through The Hague to the coast of the Netherlands on the North Sea.
This was a great fish and chips dinner on a chilly evening in The Hague. The cost for dinner was 28 euros, but when you take into consideration that the cost includes tax and tip. This was a good price. In the Netherlands the tip is always included in the price you see on the menu. Restaurant workers are paid a living wage.
